Crawford County Agrees to Contracts For LMR Tower Shelters
The Crawford County Board of Supervisors agreed to contracts for installing communication shelters at four land mobile radio tower sites on Tuesday.
The county will partner with CellSite Solutions of Cedar Rapids for the installations. The total cost for the project which includes four different sites is expected to be at least $450,000. They also held a public hearing about vacating streets in the unincorporated town of Kenwood but will need to hold another one. Assistant County Attorney Martha Sibbel explained why.
"We discovered that we have to notify the mortgagee or property owner within 300 feet of Kenwood which is a little odd for sure. We're asking that the hearing is just reset for a later date in December," said Sibbel. "There's nothing with the legal descriptions or the actual vacation itself. It's just making sure we get all of the boxes checked."
The next public hearing will be Tuesday, December 27 at the courthouse. The board also approved a tax abatement for the second lot where a trailer burned down in July. That approval is made pending a junk certificate for the trailer.
The supervisors are still finalizing an application for wind tower construction compliance certificates.
The zoning application charges a $200 fee and lists setback requirements from the foundation of a home with many of those based on the height and blades of new towers. The board discussed clarifying a section about how to apply the separate setback requirements for a participating or non-participating owner’s residence.
They also talked about clearly defining incorporated and unincorporated cities or towns based on the current zoning maps. Separation distances from places like airports and county parks can also be negotiated by local authorities. The application also says sound levels from wind turbines should not exceed 45 decibels at a residence.
