Denison Looking to Add Another Homes For Iowa House

Denison Looking to Add Another Homes For Iowa House

Denison is looking to add at least one more Homes for Iowa house in 2023.

Mayor Pam Soseman says the housing agency wants to pursue another project after selling their first HFI house last fall.

“It’s a prison-built home that comes out of Newton, Iowa. We build the basement and then the house is rolled onto the basement and it is completed from there,” said Soseman. “This is for a low-to-moderate income buyer. In our last HFI house, we did not have an LMI-qualified buyer but according to the guidelines after a 90-day period we can then sell it to anyone in the community.”

She says the city sold that first house for the full asking price and is now requesting bids for building the basement on a different lot they already own.

“Hopefully we’ll get those back and reviewed by the council and approved within the next month. Those are baby steps we are taking toward housing,” said Soseman.

Mayor Soseman says installation could happen in May of next year after the basement is completed.
