Denison Committee Working on Christmas Decoration Upgrades
The City of Denison’s Christmas committee is working diligently to replace and upgrade decorations in uptown and on Highway 30.
Mayor Pam Soseman says it’s past time to replace some pieces of holiday cheer.
“There are 28 angels on Highway 30 and those are warm lights. We’ve been bringing in cool lights. I’ve been told they’re spending $10,000 a year on replacement bulbs. The ornaments are from 2004. They’re rusted. They’re getting ready to snap. We were challenged by a city councilperson to bring in some colored lights so we will see it that happens,” said Soseman.
She says they have support from several local sources and the early part of a new calendar year can be very busy for this particular committee.
“It’s this time of year that the vendors who sell the holiday lights have a sale and you have a short window of time to pick out what you want. I’ve worked with this committee since 2017 and it was probably two or three years before a vendor reached out to me and said hey, Pam, we have a sale going on and it’s good until the middle of March,” said Soseman.
She says any new purchases must be approved by the city council under Denison’s procurement policy.
