Denison 4th at Academic Decathlon Regional, Headed to State

Denison competed in Des Moines’ Regional Academic Decathlon Tournament on Thursday, January 26, and Friday, January 27.
They placed 4th out of the large schools in the tournament. Johnston received the highest team score with 26,474.1 points. Urbandale placed 2nd with 25,902.2 points. Roosevelt placed 3rd with 23,507.3 points. Denison’s 4th place score totaled 23,197.1 points. This score qualifies them to compete in the State Tournament being held in Urbandale on March 3 & 4.

The team placed 1st in the Super Quiz competition.

Danny Saldana placed 2nd in Economics.

Poe Htoo placed 3rd in Social Science.
Quincy Mahrt placed 1st in Art and Music, and 3rd in Interview and Economics. Tyson Stoppel placed 2nd in Literature and Science, and 3rd in Economics and Social Science.
Tyson had the 2nd highest point total in his division.
Quincy had the 3rd highest point total in his division.
Comments:
This was a decent result for us. Tyson Stoppel as only a freshman produced amazing results. With five more weeks of studying, we should definitely be able to vie for a top 3 finish at State.
