Wellness Center Hoping For 2023 Start, 2025 Grand Opening
Local fundraising efforts are fully underway for the proposed wellness center.
Tim Stuart is the chairman of the Crawford County Recreation & Wellness Committee which includes around 30 people. Stuart says positive results of a market study conducted by Foursquare last year led to working with HGM Associates to put some plans together.
“A fieldhouse concept with indoor soccer but this fieldhouse would be multipurpose beyond soccer. There’s a lot of things schools can do with that particular facility in spring and summer sports and getting practice started earlier versus waiting for the weather to cooperate,” Stuart says.
He says the project is expected to cost at least $18 million and they hope to begin construction during 2023 with the grand opening in 2025.
“We’re looking at a three-year pledge. People don’t have to write out a check today,” Stuart says. “People might have, with their financial advisor, appreciated stock. Farmers may have grain that can be donated so those are a couple of ideas.”
He says other projects like this may not have reached the finish line but local support and funds from the American Rescue Plan could make the difference this time.
“There’s not a lot of negatives with this project if you think about it and it’s something that can be utilized from families and youth to our senior citizens,” Stuart says.
People can make pledges at City Hall and Edward Jones Joe Ferguson in Denison with more information on the committee’s Facebook page as well.
