Wellness Center Fundraising Separate From Local Tax Dollars
Mayor Pam Soseman says Denison’s tax dollars must be used for their designated purpose.
She says they can look for grants on top of collecting taxes to help with local repairs but roads, for example, and the proposed wellness center are two separate entities.
“This is a volunteer group that is fundraising to pay for this facility and their goal is to get it paid for and hopefully have an endowment to help pay for future costs affiliated with the wellness center. So the two funds do not mix,” Soseman said.
Mayor Soseman says they are looking to be as efficient as possible with the funds raised for the wellness center which will likely cost at least $18 million. She also says a later phase of the project could include a new pool fitting into the current layout.
