Denison Parks & Recreation Gets $1,000 For Washington Park

Denison Parks & Recreation Gets $1,000 For Washington Park

Denison Parks & Recreation received a $1,000 grant from Western Iowa Networks and Aureon this week.

Director Brian Kempfert says the money will go toward the long-term project of replacing Kids Kastle at Washington Park which is still in the fundraising phase.

“Oh, it’s great. Any little bit helps. We’ve got a few different plans out there that have been presented on what we could possibly put in down there. We haven’t decided on one yet. Right now we’re just trying to get as much money as we can to try to get more grants out there that are matching grants,” Kempfert says.

Parks & Rec Board Chairperson Cathy Gibbons says Washington Park is used often for local events which means maintaining and improving it is important.

“Everybody that comes to the community whether they’ve been here forever or new knows where that park is at because it is utilized by the different groups. I would just say it’s very useful and if we can make it nicer it’s just worth more for the community,” Gibbons says.

Both say they appreciate all support such as this grant or any suggestions from the public for any of the parks.
