Dow City Bar Owner Charged With Five Counts of Sexual Abuse

Multiple news outlets are reporting that authorities arrested Timothy Craig Mitchell of Dow City on February 1 and charged him with five counts of sexual abuse.

The incidents took place at Cheers Bar and Grill in Dow City, according to documents filed in the Iowa District Court for Crawford County. Mitchell is the owner of Cheers.

A complaint filed on January 31 lists three incidents. One of them allegedly happened on January 8 at around midnight when Mitchell told the victim, who was his employee, to close the bar for the night and forced her to have sex with him. Three of the five counts are related to that night. The other two are related to accusations that Mitchell forced the victim into the back room of the bar to have sex with him twice in November 2022. The victim says she told Mitchell no each time.

The court issued a temporary no-contact order on February 2 requiring Mitchell to stay away from the victim and released him on a $50,000 bond the next day. Mitchell pleaded not guilty and waived the preliminary hearing on February 7 with arraignment scheduled for February 27.

Sexual abuse in the third degree is a Class C Felony.
