Soldier River Bridge Project Closing Part of L51 Next Tuesday

A bridge replacement over the Soldier River between Charter Oak and Ricketts will close part of County Highway L51 for several months beginning Tuesday, February 28.
Crawford County Engineer Paul Assman says Graves Construction of Spencer wants to start the upgrade immediately after the board of supervisors gave their final approval last week.
“The reason why it’s being replaced is the deck on the bridge is in very poor condition and the bridge is narrow. It’s a 24-foot bridge. The new bridge will be 150 feet long and 30 feet 6 inches wide. It will be a little over six feet wider than the current bridge and a standard concrete open rail. It will be a nice addition and improvement to that roadway,” Assman said.
Assman says there will be an official detour on paved roads that he hopes the public will use to go around.
“As opposed to the local, gravel roads in the vicinity. We’ll try to make sure they are in good shape as well. We want to make school buses and emergency services and just make sure everyone is aware that will be closed for some time,” Assman said.
He says the project could last 4-6 months and the timeline mostly depends on the weather, labor, and the supply chain.
