‘Swimming Not Recommended’ at Prairie Rose State Park
This is the second week the state park in Shelby County has had a ‘vulnerable’ classification from the Iowa DNR. A test performed on Wednesday, May 31st, revealed bacteria concentrations that were six times the state’s safety threshold. On Friday, June 9th, a test revealed levels that were E. coli 610 Most Probable Number (MPN) per 100ml. The water quality threshold for E. coli can be exceeded if a one-time sample exceeds 235 E. coli per 100 ml of water. Four other state park beaches were under the ‘Swimming Not Recommended’ swim warning. Those parks were Beeds Lake State Park, McIntosh Woods State Park, Pine Lake State Park, and Union Grove State Park.
