Stand-off situation leads to arrest at Cobblestone Inn and Suites
Yesterday evening The Denison Police Department arrested Carey Robinson of Davenport at the Cobblestone Inn at Oakridge Drive in Denison after attempts to get him to leave the motel where he had been staying as a guest. The situation began on Monday, October 5th when the Denison Police Department was contacted by hotel staff regarding a welfare check on one of their guests. Officers were able to see Robinson walking in his room but he would unresponsive to communication at the door and phone calls. Robinson had not committed any crime at that point and after police had consulted motel staff he was left alone.
Yesterday, October 6th, officers contacted motel staff to inquire about the situation and it was made aware to officers that Robinson's cresit card had declined. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. officers gave Robinson an order to vacate the room, but Robinson was unresponsive to the orders as well as attempts to have him talk with mental health professionals and Iowa State Patrol Crisis Negotiators who were assisting at the scene. As negotiators were trying to talk Robinson through the door, Robinson barricaded the door with a mattress. From there, arrest warrants for theft and trespass were obtained, as well as a search warrant for the room.
A tactical team with the Pottawatomie Sheriff's Office came to assist with the warrants and shortly after 6:40 p.m., the tactical unit arrived on scene, and after failed efforts to communicate with Robinson, the unit served the warrant by forcing entry into the room, and officers proceeded to take Robinson into custody around 8:30 p.m. Additional charges of Interference with Official acts and Criminal Mischief were filed against Robinson. Robinson was transported to and booked at the Crawford County Jail. There were no injuries to Robinson or officers. The Denison Police Department was assisted by the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie Sheriff's Office, Denison Fire Department and Crawford County Memorial Hospital Ambulance.
