Denison parents charged for leaving 8 and 5-year-old home alone while traveling
KCAU is reporting a Denison mother and father were charged with child endangerment after two minor children were found left alone while the parents were in Oklahoma.
According to court documents, a 3-year-old was unsupervised running around naked and rolling in a ditch near Highway 30 on May 2 around 9:39 a.m. The child was later found in an unlocked car. Upon being discovered, Josephine Hazelwood, 25, claimed her son was kidnapped. At the same time, Cody Hutchison, 25, was allegedly out fishing.
Later that day around around 4:24 p.m., two children, an 8-year-old and 5-year-old, were found alone and unsupervised, documents state. It was later discovered that the parents, Hazelwood and Hutchison, both of Denison, had allegedly left for Oklahoma “without making arrangements for the two minor children’s welfare.”
A warrant was issued for the arrest of both Hazelwood and Hutchison, and they were taken into custody on May 7.
Hazelwood and Hutchison were both charged with two counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. The two were booked into the Crawford County Jail on a $4,000 bond. The two have since bonded out of jail.
The next court appearance for both is scheduled for May 17.
All charges are allegations and the people charged in this case are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
