Donna Reed Theatre Hosts Second Annual 712 Film Festival
On Saturday, May 4th, 2024, local student and professional short films were featured during the second annual 712 Film Festival at The Donna Reed Theatre in Denison, Iowa.
The festival kicked off with opening remarks by Mary Owen, the daughter of Donna Reed. Films from student and professional filmmakers with a connection to Iowa were then shown. There were various genres, including comedy, horror, and documentaries.
“We were very pleased as almost 30 outstanding short films were submitted,” shared 712 Film Festival Committee Member, Greg Sextro. “Attendees were impressed by the quality and variety of the films. We hope to hold the festival again next year with a large selection of films and a bigger audience.”
The high school films were submitted by students from Denison, IKM-Manning, Coon Rapids-Bayard, LeMars, Cherokee Washington, Storm Lake, and Ridge View High School. Films from The University of Iowa and Grinnell College students were also featured. Audience choice awards were announced at the end of the festival.
The organizers of the 712 Film Festival are Greg Sextro, an actor and writer; Ryan Runyan, a local filmmaker and IKM-Manning High School band instructor and film advisor; Grace Sextro, a film producer and professional editor; and Chuck Hughes, a screenwriter.
