Shelby County officials declare burn ban, local fire departments remain busy

Shelby County Emergency Management Agency announced yesterday that Shelby County is currently in extreme fire danger, and a burn ban has been enforced until further notice.

Area fire departments have been busy lately. The Denison Fire Department reported that on Friday, November 6th, they were paged by the Manilla Fire Department to a hay bale fire in which an estimated 100 bales were on fire near 370th and X avenue. No injuries were reported.

The Arcadia Fire Department has also been working this week, as they were dispatched on three consecutive days last week for mutual aid to area agencies. On Wednesday around 1:50 P.M., the department assisted the departments of Lake View, Wall Lake, and Breda in putting out a machine shed fire four miles west of Breda. Around 12:45 p.m. on Friday, they were called to a cornfield on fire where crews were on scene for roughly 90 minutes to combat the fire and monitor for spot fires.
