Monona County man sentenced for murder

After being found guilty of first-degree murder in November, 22 year old Eliot Stowe was sentenced this morning in a Monona County courtroom to life in prison without parole. The judge stated that the state proved Stowe killed his grandmother willfully, deliberately, meditatively, and with specific intent and that the defense failed to prove that he suffered from insanity at the time of the murder. The sentencing stems from the June 2018 murder of Cheryl Stowe, in which her body was discovered near her rural home in Castana. Eliot Stowe pleaded not guilty to the charge by reason of insanity claiming to have undiagnosed schizophrenia, but did not win that plea.
