The Denison Police Department has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 KELTEK K9 Unit grant, which will help fund the reinstatement of its K9 program. As only the second department to receive this grant, Denison will use the $10,500 award to customize an uplift for its 2023 Ford F-150, providing a specialized space to safely transport the new K9 officer. Police Chief Tony Trejo expressed his pride in bringing the K9 unit back to the force after a six-year hiatus, noting that it reflects the department's proactive approach to law enforcement and the community's commitment to supporting both officers and the agency. The department has been actively fundraising to acquire a K9, and the KELTEK grant brings them significantly closer to reaching their goal. Larry Kolontar, President of KELTEK, Inc., which has provided vehicle upfits, technology, and other services to law enforcement for over 25 years, expressed excitement about the grant, saying, "We are honored to play a role in helping the Denison Police Department reinstate their K9 program, which will enhance their ability to serve the community."
