Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds Appoints Senator Chris Cournoyer as New Lieutenant Governor

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has officially named Senator Chris Cournoyer as the new lieutenant governor of Iowa.
This announcement follows the vacancy left by Adam Gregg, who stepped down from the role in September to become the president of the Iowa Bankers Association. In a statement at the time, Gregg explained his decision, saying, "My time in public service must come to a close," and expressed his pride in the state’s banking industry: "For every good thing happening in our state, there was an Iowa bank backing it. Now I have the great honor to represent this industry, which is so critical to Iowa’s success."
Governor Reynolds, who previously served as lieutenant governor under Governor Terry Branstad, had the authority to appoint a replacement. Cournoyer, a Republican senator, will now fill the position for the remainder of Gregg’s term, which runs through January 2027.
