Planned Bridge Replacement on U.S. 30 Over Boyer River in Crawford County Scheduled for 2028
The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced plans to replace the U.S. 30 bridge over the Boyer River in Crawford County, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028. The project will include a detour to maintain traffic flow during the closure.
During construction, U.S. 30 will be closed to through traffic. The proposed detour will direct drivers south from Dow City at the intersection of U.S. 30 and N. Clark St., continuing east on County Road E59 for 8.1 miles, and then north on U.S. 59 for 6.1 miles back to U.S. 30. Access to properties along U.S. 30 will remain open at all times.
For paddlers, temporary channel obstructions will require updates to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) interactive river mapping system. The contractor will coordinate closely with the DNR and local conservation authorities to ensure safety signage is placed and maintained during the construction period.
The Iowa DOT is inviting public comments on the project. Feedback can be submitted until January 20, 2025. Community input is an essential part of the planning process.
