At a special meeting on Monday evening, American Legion Post 8 in Denison recognized the top winners of this year’s 5th-grade flag essay contest. With 26 entries submitted, the competition was fierce, but the three finalists stood out for their exceptional work and passion for patriotism.
The first-place winner, Ezekiel Gosh of Unity Ridge, captivated the judges with his thoughtful essay. As the winner, Ezekiel will have the honor of reading his essay at the upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony.
Second place went to Aaron Mena of St. Rose, while third place was awarded to Ashley Baez of Broadway.
Commander William Pat Smith praised the students for their impressive work and expressed pride in the strong sense of patriotism displayed by the youth of Denison. "People who believe that today's youth lack patriotism should read these essays. Here in Denison, our young people continue to demonstrate a deep love for their country," Smith said.
The ceremony was an inspiring reminder of the values of patriotism and civic duty, and the community looks forward to hearing Ezekiel's winning essay at the Memorial Day event later this year.
