DENISON, Iowa — On Saturday, May 10th, U.S. Postal Service letter carriers in Denison will participate in a community-wide food drive to support TAP (Temporary Assistance Program). Both rural and city carriers will be collecting non-perishable food and paper items left by residents at their mailboxes or in mail slots.
The food drive comes at a critical time, as food pantries run by TAP often face shortages during the spring months. Items especially needed include canned meats, soups, juice, vegetables, cereal, rice, noodles, ketchup, flour, and sugar. Residents are reminded not to donate items that are expired or packaged in glass containers.
At the end of the collection day, postal workers will weigh the donations and deliver them to TAP in Denison. All items collected will stay local and benefit families in the Denison area.
Organizers are encouraging everyone in the community to participate and help stock the shelves for those in need. "Remembering to put out a food item will help feed others," the notice reads.
