Matthew Mendenhall Completes Eagle Scout Project at Crawford County Nature Center

(Denison, IA) Matthew Mendenhall, a local Eagle Scout candidate, has made a significant contribution to the Crawford County Nature Center by completing a project that will enhance outdoor learning experiences for local youth.
Mendenhall, who has been a longtime participant and helper at the nature center’s camps, constructed two benches and two outdoor kitchens as part of his Eagle Scout project. The American Legion provided funding for the initiative, while Mendenhall completed the work with the support of his fellow troop members and family.
"Matthew has been one of my nature campers and helpers for years," said Kelly Sonnichsen with Crawford County Conservation. "I showed him a picture of what we needed, and he brought it to life. Watching the kids play in the outdoor kitchens he built has been so heartwarming. It takes me back to making mud pies when I was a child."
The outdoor kitchens have quickly become a favorite feature for young visitors, providing them with a space to engage in creative play and hands-on learning.
Crawford County Conservation expressed its gratitude to Matthew and his family for their dedication, as well as to the American Legion for making the project possible. This addition is expected to serve as a lasting resource for educational activities at the park.
