Carroll Man Arrested for Alleged Vehicle Theft, Assaulting Officer During Struggle

A Carroll man is facing several charges following two incidents that occurred over the weekend, including the alleged theft of a vehicle and an assault on a police officer.
According to the Carroll Police Department, 32-year-old Asher Dodd Herrin was taken into custody on Saturday. The first incident occurred on Thursday, May 8, when Herrin allegedly drove away with a vehicle parked in the Merchant’s Park lot without the owner’s permission. This led to a charge of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor.
On Saturday, authorities say Herrin took a hammer from Carroll Ace Hardware without paying. When officers attempted to arrest him later that day in the 100 block of E 6th Street, Herrin reportedly resisted, resulting in a confrontation. During the struggle, one of the officers struck his head against a block wall, sustaining a concussion.
Herrin now faces additional charges of assault on persons in certain occupations with intent to cause serious injury, a class D felony, and fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor. As of Monday morning, Herrin remained in custody at the Carroll County Jail, awaiting future court appearances.
