SCHLESWIG, Iowa — May 27, 2025 — The City of Schleswig has announced a planned interruption of water service for some residents due to upcoming system upgrades aimed at improving water quality and flow.
In a notice from Mayor Bett Winquist Bech Wriggis and the City Council, the city detailed that it will be installing connecting loops to dead-end freshwater pipes along Highway 59. The work is expected to begin as early as June 1, though final dates and details are still being determined.
The planned upgrade will affect homes located within the first two blocks off Highway 59, between Ash Street and Elm Street. Residents in that area can expect an estimated eight-hour water service interruption on the scheduled day.
To prepare, the city is advising affected households to store an adequate water supply in advance. Once service is restored, water may appear cloudy for a short time but should clear up within a few hours.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve the city’s water system,” said Mayor Wriggis.
Updates regarding the shut-off schedule, including specific dates and times, will be posted on the “You know you are from Schleswig when…” Facebook page.
