Lois Thompson Named 2025 Dunlap Fourth of July Grand Marshal
The Dunlap Fourth of July Committee has announced Lois Thompson as the 2025 Grand Marshal, honoring a beloved lifelong member of the community for her decades of service and dedication.
Lois, a former schoolteacher of over 50 years, has been a cornerstone of Dunlap through her involvement in education, faith, and volunteerism. She is an active member of her church, regularly volunteers at the Dougal House and McLean Museum, and hosts a weekly quilting club that has become a community staple.
Among her most heartfelt contributions is her work with her daughter creating "Quilts of Honor" for local veterans — a touching gesture that has brought comfort and recognition to many. One of these hand-crafted quilts is proudly displayed at the Dunlap Fire Station.
The committee, made up of Justin Schaben, Jill Melby, Jake McAllister, Austin McDonald, and Julie Elder, expressed that Lois exemplifies the spirit of the town and deserved to be recognized for her generous and compassionate nature. Her nomination came from Bill and Becky Greenwood, who also helped orchestrate the surprise announcement.
The town of Dunlap looks forward to celebrating with Lois at the upcoming Fourth of July festivities.
