Whiting Woman Formally Claims Self-Defense in Fatal Stabbing Case

WHITING, Iowa — A woman charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend is officially moving forward with a self-defense claim, according to newly filed court records.
Veronica Kluge, 47, is accused of killing 50-year-old Justin Luth on March 15. Prosecutors charged her with first-degree murder, but Kluge pleaded not guilty in May.
This week, a notice submitted to the court on June 17 confirmed that Kluge intends to assert self-defense at trial. Her defense claims Luth attacked her, prompting her to grab a knife and stab him during the confrontation. Kluge then called 911 and told dispatchers she had killed her boyfriend.
However, authorities have previously said that physical evidence at the scene contradicts her account.
A trial scheduling conference in the case is set for Friday, June 20.
