New Chess Club Aims to Bring Community Together in Denison

DENISON, Iowa — A new opportunity for strategic minds and curious learners is coming to town. Local resident Bill Anderson is launching the Denison Chess Club, open to players of all skill levels—from complete beginners to experienced competitors.
The club’s first meeting will take place Monday, June 30, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Fireside Room of the Denison Public Library.
To kick off the club’s debut, Iowa Senior Chess Champion Tim McEntee will be a special guest, offering a presentation that’s expected to inspire and educate players of all backgrounds.
“Chess brings people together across generations and experience levels,” said Anderson. “This is about creating a welcoming space for anyone interested in learning or growing in the game.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chess sets, though it’s not required to participate. Those interested in joining can email denisoniowachess@gmail.com to get on the club’s mailing list.
Whether you're making your first move or aiming for checkmate, all are invited to come connect with fellow chess enthusiasts and help shape a new chapter in Denison’s community life.
