Manilla and Glidden Receive Grants for Childcare

The Iowa Economic Development Authority has selected two area communities for the Community Development Block Grant for the construction of new childcare centers.

The city of Manilla will be the recipient of up to $300,000 for the Little Hawks' Child Care Center. The city of Glidden was awarded up to $500,000 through the grant's Community Facilities and Services Program for the proposed Little Wildcats Education Center. Both communities are in areas where there are at least three times more children than the number of spots available at local licensed providers. People of these communities are optimistic the grants will help the centers address the shortage and spur interest from people or businesses looking or thinking of relocating. The grants were authored by the staff at the Region XII Council of Governments.
