Dow City Man Convicted on Three Counts of Sexual Abuse

Crawford County, Iowa – According to the Crawford County Attorney's office, a Dow City man has been found guilty of sexually abusing an employee at a local bar following a trial this week in Crawford County District Court.

A jury returned the verdict Friday, convicting 39-year-old Timothy Craig Mitchell on three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, all Class C felonies. Mitchell was found not guilty on two additional counts related to separate alleged incidents.

The charges stem from multiple assaults that occurred between November 2022 and January 2023 while Mitchell and the victim worked together at Cheers in Dow City. According to court documents and trial testimony, Mitchell used physical force to compel the victim into performing sexual acts after hours at the bar.

The victim came forward and filed a report with law enforcement on January 31, 2023. Mitchell was arrested the following day and pleaded not guilty to all charges on February 7.

Each Class C felony conviction carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, meaning Mitchell now faces a maximum of 30 years behind bars.
