Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop Building to Be Acquired by Christ Lutheran Church

(DENISON, IA) – The Board of Directors of the Hospital Foundation of Crawford County (HFCC) announced today the pending sale of the Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop building and business operations to Christ Lutheran Church of Denison. Christ Lutheran Church will incorporate its worship services into the newly acquired space while also hoping to continue thrift shop operations.
The sale is pending final approvals and is expected to close by June 1, 2026. In the meantime, the thrift shop will continue its current hours and operation. Both organizations are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for customers, volunteers, and congregants alike.
The Good Samaritan Center Thrift Shop has been run for the past nine years by the HFCC, offering affordable goods and a unique shopping experience while providing financial support for patient and employee programs at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. This support includes the Community Cares Patient Transportation Service, equipment purchases for patient care, and employee scholarship programs, among others.
Christ Lutheran Church currently holds its Sunday services at the Boulders Conference Center. The acquisition of the thrift shop building will provide the church with a permanent home that also allows them to integrate their ministry directly with a thriving community resource.
"Christ Lutheran Church is incredibly excited about this opportunity to expand our reach and better serve the Denison community," stated Pastor Ted Torreson. "Having our worship space integrated into the building will allow us to create a truly multi-faceted hub for community engagement, fellowship, and spiritual growth. The thrift shop already provides an invaluable service, and we hope to continue its operation as a community resource."
