Le Mars Woman Sentenced to 50 Years in Death of Two-Year-Old Child

(LE MARS) – A Le Mars woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison following the death of her two-year-old child.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Sexlyn Tataichy pleaded guilty to child endangerment resulting in death, a Class B felony under Iowa law. She was sentenced to 50 years in prison with the possibility of parole.

The charges stem from an April 29, 2024 incident, when emergency crews were called to a Le Mars home for a report of an unconscious child. Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

First responders noted bruising on the child’s arms and abdomen, prompting an investigation by Le Mars Police. Authorities later discovered additional injuries, including long marks and scratches consistent with being struck by an object.

Tataichy was arrested on September 24, 2024, following the months-long investigation. She was initially charged with three offenses, including second-degree murder and an additional count of child endangerment. Those two charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement filed in May and formally accepted by the court on June 20, 2025.

Tataichy will now serve her sentence at an Iowa correctional facility, with eligibility for parole prior to completing the full 50-year term.
