Crawford County Hospital Blood Drive Saves Up to 117 Lives, Celebrates Lifesaving Donor Milestones

DENISON, Iowa – The most recent community blood drive, held in August at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in partnership with LifeServe Blood Center, proved to be a lifesaving success for patients in need across the region.

Despite the challenges of summer, when blood donations often decline due to travel and school breaks, local donors turned out in force to ensure a steady supply for surgeries, accident victims, cancer treatments, and other medical needs.

According to LifeServe Blood Center, the August drive resulted in:

  • 39 appointments scheduled

  • 34 individuals donating blood

  • 31 eligible donors

  • 36 units of blood collected

With each unit capable of helping up to three patients, these donations have the potential to impact as many as 117 lives.

LifeServe recognized several milestone donors for their outstanding commitment:

  • 15 Gallons: Thomas Pauley

  • 5 Gallons: Roland Wiebers

  • 4 Gallons: Pamela Martin

  • 2 Gallons: Mark Weller

  • 1 Gallon: Michele Stover

In addition, first-time donor Austin Schechinger was honored for joining the effort.

LifeServe extended its thanks to all participating donors, including: Ronald Songer, Marlys Haberberger, Grace Kelly, Mary Spreng, Nancy Bradley, Debra Potts, Roger Borecky, Madison Adams, Ana Barnhouse, Raenada Ronfeldt Weller, Renee Sibbel, Tammi Mether, Roger Rasmussen, Lillian Wyatt, Deborah Green, Yessica Lucas, Cheri Emery, Karen Tibben, Craig Brodersen, David Reisz, Sandra Johnson, Steven Schmidt, Craig Miller, Kathleen Granger, Timothy Grady, Leesa Kuhlmann, Kenneth Crawford, Bruce Meyer, and others who rolled up their sleeves to help.

LifeServe Blood Center emphasized the critical importance of August donations, noting that blood products have a short shelf life and demand never takes a vacation.

The next Denison Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, from 12:15 to 5:45 p.m. in Meeting Rooms B and C at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. Appointments can be made by texting “LIFESERVE” to 999-777 or visiting lifeservebloodcenter.org.
