Proposed $19 Million Roundabout and Bridge Safety Project Presented for Highway 59/30 in Denison
DENISON, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) presented plans to the Denison City Council Tuesday night for a proposed $19 million safety project at the two intersections where Highways 59 and 30 meet in Denison.
The project focuses on replacing the bridges on U.S. Highway 30 and 59. Both the eastbound (northbound) and westbound (southbound) bridges are included in the plan. The DOT plans to put the project out for bids in 2028, with construction to follow.
As part of the bridge replacement, roundabouts would be installed at the intersections to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes.
“This is a safety project and it will improve conditions for our community in both the North and South Buckets,” Mayor Pam Soseman said, noting that the council expressed strong support for the plan.
The DOT is expected to share more details and present the proposal to the community at a later date.
