Fatal Collision in Rural Sac County Claims Life of Wall Lake Driver

SAC COUNTY, Iowa – A Sac County man was killed Thursday morning following a two-vehicle collision on Union Avenue.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:29 a.m. on August 21, 2025. Authorities report that a black Dodge Ram, driven by Jeremy Fank, was traveling northbound on Union Avenue in rural Sac County when he attempted to pass a semi tractor-trailer.

During the maneuver, Fank observed a red Toyota Camry, driven by Roy Russom, traveling southbound on Union Avenue. Both drivers swerved toward the west ditch in an effort to avoid a collision, but Fank’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side of Russom’s car.

Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch. Russom was pronounced dead at the scene by Sac County EMS. Dense fog was present at the time of the crash, reducing visibility for drivers.

The Iowa State Patrol is leading the investigation.
