Shelby County Man Arrested in Tire Dumping Investigation

Shelby County, Iowa — On August 30, 2025, Pottawattamie County Deputies arrested Wesley Fischer of Hancock, Iowa, on Shelby County warrants tied to an ongoing investigation into illegal tire dumping.

Authorities say the investigation, which stretched over several months, focused on large numbers of tires being dumped along county road ditches in Shelby County. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the effort with help from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Atlantic Police Department, and several other agencies.

The Shelby County Roads Department was left to handle cleanup, with tire disposal and removal costs totaling nearly $24,000.

Following an extensive investigation, Fischer was charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony, and first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for its awareness and assistance during the investigation, reminding residents that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
