SCHLESWIG, Iowa — Voters in the Schleswig Community School District have overwhelmingly approved a new Revenue Purpose Statement, with unofficial results showing 33 in favor and just 1 opposed during Tuesday’s special election.
The measure does not raise any sales or property taxes. Instead, it allows the district to direct existing state penny sales tax revenues—commonly known as SAVE funds—toward school improvements, technology upgrades, and equipment for students.
Superintendent Dr. Kim Buryanek had explained ahead of the vote that the purpose of the measure was simply to give the district flexibility in how it spends those dollars, ensuring that future projects can be addressed without additional tax burdens on residents.
With the statement approved, the Schleswig district will now be able to move forward with planning facility updates and technology investments aimed at benefiting both students and staff.
