Dow City Man to Stand Trial in 2026 for Alleged Child Endangerment and Neglect

Dow City Man to Stand Trial in 2026 for Alleged Child Endangerment and Neglect

A Dow City man accused of seriously injuring his infant son will face a jury trial early next year after entering a plea of not guilty to multiple felony charges.

According to Crawford County District Court records, 27-year-old Zhane Michael Frazier brought his three-month-old son to Crawford County Memorial Hospital on July 12, saying the baby had stopped breathing and was unresponsive. Medical staff found the infant suffering from severe injuries and transferred him by air ambulance to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Doctors reported signs of a brain bleed, multiple bone fractures, and retinal hemorrhaging, prompting notification of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Investigators say Frazier was the only adult present caring for the infant and another young child at the time.

Frazier was arrested in August and later released after posting a $50,000 surety bond. He faces three Class C felony counts:

  • Child endangerment causing serious injury

  • Neglect or abandonment of a dependent person

  • Assault while participating in a felony, causing serious injury

A jury trial is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at the Crawford County Courthouse. If convicted on all charges, Frazier could face up to 30 years in prison and fines exceeding $40,000.
