RELEASE: Ar-We-Va Receives $3000 Cash for Classrooms Grant from Casey’s for New Classroom Furniture
Ar-We-Va is a 2021 Casey’s Cash for Classrooms grant recipient. The school will receive $3000 to
replace classroom furniture that provides a more collaborative learning environment while still
maintaining COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. This project will provide students with new desks and chairs that can come together easily to have a quick brainstorming session or to collaboratively learn. The desks tops will be large enough to accommodate student's Chromebooks while still leaving space to do paper/pencil classwork. Having this ability to collaboratively learn will help students develop communication skills needed for employment in the 21st century.
“We are so appreciative to receive a Cash for Classrooms grant and are excited to order our new
classroom furniture. The ability to collaboratively learn will improve our students’ ability to learn and grow at Ar-We-Va each day while still being mindful of the COVID-19 measurements,” said Sarah Smith, middle school and high school language arts instructor at Ar-We-Va.
“The past 12 months have been extremely difficult for communities and schools. We are excited to
receive this grant that will enable us to purchase equipment that will ensure both social distancing and collaboration as either need arises. We thank Casey’s for this grant and their support of education in the state of Iowa,” said Chris Petersen, PK-12 principal at Ar-We-Va.
“The past year has been unlike any other for schools, and our Cash for Classrooms grants will help
schools through this difficult time as well as to improve the learning environment for the future. Casey’s is here for good and that means supporting students, teachers and families in our local communities,” said Katie Petru, Director of Community at Casey’s.
The project is expected to be completed by August of 2021.

The 2022 grant program will open in the fall.
