A Buck Grove woman, 46-year-old Sabrina Renee Wood, has been ordered to appear in Carroll County District Court after allegedly writing several checks from an account with insufficient funds.
Court documents state that Wood issued three checks in April and May to a Carroll County business, totaling more than $1,500. Authorities report that all three checks were returned unpaid. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office made repeated attempts to contact Wood to settle the debt, but she allegedly failed to pay the full amount owed.
Wood is now facing a charge of second-degree theft, classified as a Class D felony in Iowa. She has been ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on November 20 at the Carroll County Courthouse. A Class D felony carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,245.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
