Denison Teacher Awarded Agriculture in the Classroom Grant

DENISON, Iowa — A Denison Community High School teacher is receiving state support to expand hands-on agricultural learning opportunities for students.

Tieryn Tucker, Vocational Agriculture instructor at Denison Community High School, has been awarded a 2026 Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) Teacher Supplement Grant. The $200 grant will help fund classroom materials, guest speakers, field trips, and other real-world learning experiences designed to deepen students’ understanding of food systems, farming, and natural resources.

The Agriculture in the Classroom program supports educators who integrate agriculture-based lessons into their curriculum, helping students connect classroom concepts to Iowa’s leading industry. This spring, IALF-funded projects across the state include farm robotics, nutrition and culinary education, animal and crop lifecycles, pollinator studies, agricultural history, and more.

Tucker is one of 118 educators across 50 Iowa counties selected to receive an AITC Teacher Supplement Grant this year, with dozens of recipients earning the award for the first time.

The grant funding will allow Denison students to experience agriculture beyond the textbook, bringing practical, hands-on learning into the classroom and strengthening connections between education and Iowa agriculture.
