John Edward Rath Charitable Foundation Awards $400,000 in Grants Across Crawford County

(Denison, IA) The John Edward Rath Charitable Foundation (JRCF) has awarded a total of $400,000 in grants to organizations and projects benefiting Crawford County residents.

According to foundation officials, the funding is distributed in accordance with JRCF guidelines, which require that half of the foundation’s income go to preselected beneficiaries, while the remaining half is awarded through a competitive grant process. The foundation’s advisory board met February 9 to determine this year’s recipients, with grants formally presented during a reception March 12 at Majestic Hills Golf Course in Denison.

Among the competitive grant recipients, several local organizations received funding for community improvement projects and services. The Friends of the Schleswig Fire Department and the Friends of the Crawford County Wellness Center each received $40,000 for a used ambulance and wellness center construction, respectively. The Manilla Fire Department was awarded more than $15,800 for a quick attack truck and equipment, while Crossroads of Crawford County received $15,000 to modify its building to better support family services.

Additional grants supported a variety of needs, including $10,000 to the City of Deloit for heating and cooling upgrades at City Hall, $10,000 to Eventide Foundation for non-emergency medical transportation, and nearly $10,000 to the City of Aspinwall for a snowblower attachment. Other awards funded projects such as historical building preservation, food assistance, fire department equipment, and youth programming across the county.

Permanent grant recipients also received significant funding, including $62,000 for Oakland Cemetery, $40,000 for Zion Lutheran Church, and $38,000 for Iowa State University’s Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Additional allocations included $25,000 each for the Norelius Community Library in Denison and Iowa Public Television, along with $10,000 for Ames Memorial Lutheran Church.
