Crawford County Sheriff Files Petition Over Salary Decision
(Denison, IA) Roger Rasmussen, sheriff of the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, has filed a legal petition involving the Crawford County Board of Supervisors over how his salary was set for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to the petition, the county’s Compensation Board recommended a $28,000 increase, which would bring the sheriff’s salary to approximately $131,983. The Board of Supervisors instead approved a smaller increase of $7,516.75, setting the salary at $111,500.
The filing argues that the approved amount does not comply with Iowa’s Back the Blue Act, which requires sheriff salaries to be comparable to similar law enforcement positions in counties of similar size. The petition states that the decision places the salary below those benchmarks and alleges financial harm.
