Fatal motorcycle accident in Shelby County, Wednesday evening

(Shelby, IA) – One person died after a motorcycle struck a field sprayer Wednesday evening, in Shelby County. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened north of Shelby at around 7:25-p.m., on Shelby County Road M-16, when a northbound 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by 19-year-old Jacob Buman, of Harlan, struck a 2010 Apache 715 sprayer that was also northbound, and had begun to turn left into a driveway.
The motorcycle hit the sprayer from the rear while the machine was in mid-turn. Following the collision, the motorcycle came to rest in the west ditch off of County Road M-16. The Sprayer came to rest in the driveway at 226 County Road M-16.
Buman died at the scene of the crash. The operator of the sprayer, 37-year-old Luke Applegate, of Shelby, was not injured.
