The Sac County Sheriff’s Office says the derailment was reported around 4:38 p.m. near Ira Avenue and 350th Street, roughly three and a half miles southeast of Odebolt. The initial call to the Sac County Communication Center indicated approximately five train cars had left the tracks.

Deputies with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Odebolt Fire Department responded to the scene and remained there Monday evening to monitor the situation and secure the area. Fire officials confirmed about an hour after the derailment that no leaks had been detected from the cars.

Ira Avenue was closed between 340th and 350th streets while crews worked to remove the train cars from the roadway. The road reopened at around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
