(Woodbine, Iowa) Woodbine Main Street is asking for the public’s assistance after a window on the community’s historic train car was recently broken in an act of vandalism.

The organization said the damage affects more than the cost of replacing the glass, as the train car represents an important part of Woodbine’s history and has been preserved through years of work by volunteers, residents and visitors. Repairing the damage will also require time and resources that could otherwise support preservation efforts and community programs.

Woodbine Main Street is encouraging families to discuss the importance of respecting public property, historic landmarks and shared community spaces. The organization noted that local landmarks help preserve the town’s identity while also supporting tourism and the local economy.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is encouraged to contact the Woodbine Police Department at 712-647-2345.
