Manilla Named One of Iowa’s Top Small-Town Fourth of July Destinations
(MANILLA, Iowa) Manilla’s Fourth of July celebration is receiving statewide recognition after being named one of six Iowa Independence Day events “worth the drive” by the Iowa Road Trip blog.
The June 23 list was created from responses submitted by Iowa Road Trip followers, who were asked to name their favorite small-town Fourth of July celebration and explain what makes it special.
Manilla appeared repeatedly in the responses, with followers praising the community’s parade, free family activities, food, live music and fireworks. Several people described the celebration as a yearly homecoming that brings families, former residents and visitors back to town.
The fireworks display received especially strong praise. One follower called it “the best firework show,” while another noted that people travel from miles around to watch the Manilla sky light up.
Charlie Schram Park was also highlighted as an important part of the experience. Followers mentioned the park’s shade trees, food, photo opportunities and welcoming hometown atmosphere.
The Iowa Road Trip article said Manilla’s celebration captures the type of small-town pride that makes Independence Day events across Iowa memorable.
Manilla joined Storm Lake, New Market, Spillville, Clear Lake and Belmond on the statewide list.
