WIN Announces Promotion of Chris Nieland to Chief Operating Officer
(Breda, Iowa) Western Iowa Networks is pleased to announce the promotion of Chris Nieland to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective July 2026.
Nieland brings two decades of experience and leadership to the role, having dedicated his career to serving Western Iowa Networks and the communities it supports. Since joining the company in May 2006 as an Outside Plant Technician, Nieland has played an integral role in the organization’s growth, operational excellence, and network expansion efforts.
After serving as an Outside Plant Technician through 2013, Nieland transitioned into the role of IT Technician, where he worked until February 2018. He was then promoted to Director of Operations, a position he has held for more than eight years. During his tenure as Director of Operations, Western Iowa Networks experienced significant growth, including the continued expansion of its fiber-optic network and the advancement of technologies designed to better serve customers across Western Iowa.
“Western Iowa Networks has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the last decade, and I am proud to have been a part of that growth,” said Nieland. “This growth would not have been possible without the great leadership and employees that our organization has. As technology continues to grow at a rapid pace, I am excited to evolve and grow our network to support our current and future customers into the future.”
As Chief Operating Officer, Nieland will continue to oversee the company’s operational strategy while helping guide future growth initiatives, network development, and service innovations that strengthen Western Iowa Networks’ commitment to delivering reliable communications services to the communities it serves.
“Chris’s promotion to Chief Operating Officer is a reflection of his dedication, leadership, and deep understanding of our business,” said Jeff Roiland, CEO of Western Iowa Networks. “Over the past 20 years, Chris has grown alongside our company, serving in roles that have given him firsthand experience in nearly every aspect of our operations. His commitment to our customers, employees, and communities has helped drive the tremendous growth we’ve experienced. I am confident that Chris will continue to lead our organization forward as we invest in new technologies, expand our fiber network, and build on the strong foundation that has made Western Iowa Networks successful for more than 120 years.”
Nieland’s promotion reflects Western Iowa Networks’ commitment to developing leaders from within and investing in the long-term success of both its employees and customers.
