Jury Selection Set Tuesday in Crawford County Infant Death Case
(Denison, IA) Jury selection is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning in the trial of a Crawford County man charged in connection with the death of his infant daughter.
Chad Eugene Gibbs Jr. faces charges of first-degree murder and two counts of child endangerment in the January 2025 death of his daughter, Genevieve Gibbs. He has pleaded not guilty.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Crawford County District Court, with jury selection expected to take place first.
Authorities allege Gibbs caused injuries that led to the infant’s death. Genevieve was less than a month old when she was hospitalized following an incident at the family’s home and later died.
The child’s mother, Sarah Lembke, was also initially charged in the case. That charge was dismissed in December 2025 after prosecutors said additional evidence did not support the allegation against her. Lembke has since been subpoenaed in Gibbs’ case.
The case has been pending since early 2025 and has gone through several delays and pretrial proceedings ahead of this week’s trial.
Crawford County Attorney Colin Johnson and Iowa Assistant Attorney General Ryan Baldridge are prosecuting the case. Gibbs is represented by attorney Priscilla Forsyth.
Chief District Court Judge Patrick Tott is presiding.
