(DENISON, Iowa) Denison City Manager Jessica Garcia has been recognized by the Iowa League of Cities as the recipient of the Rhonda Wood Smith Award, an annual honor presented to a young or newer city official who demonstrates exceptional dedication to local government.
The award recognizes qualities including exemplary work and innovation, bold leadership, personal commitment, and service to the community.
Garcia was surprised with the honor during an Iowa League of Cities conference. City Clerk Jodie Flaherty, along with members of the Denison City Council and Mayor, had been aware of the recognition beforehand and helped keep the award a secret ahead of the banquet.
City officials congratulated Garcia and thanked her for her continued work in addressing the challenges and responsibilities involved in managing the community.
The City of Denison said Garcia’s commitment and willingness to go above and beyond have contributed to the continued success of the community.
