Denison School Board Debates Facilities, Sets April Budget Hearing

The conversation about how to prioritize upcoming projects for several Denison Community School District facilities made up about two-thirds of Monday night's Board of Education public meeting.

The discussion featured possible bathroom updates, converting some buildings into multipurpose areas, and concessions upgrades but official decisions on the direction of these potential investments will be made at a later date.

The board unanimously approved three appointments including dual language elementary school teacher Monica Lara for next school year, Joe Brawner as middle school track and field coach starting this season, and head tennis coach Spencer Pauley for this spring. They also approved the resignation of elementary school teacher Kelsey Assman effective at the end of this year.

The board voted 4-1 to accept the Denison Community School 2021-2022 school calendar. They unanimously agreed to authorize publication of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget and set the next regular board meeting on Monday, April 12th as the public hearing for that budget.

The board and school administrators are still finalizing plans to safely host major spring events such as graduation and prom. They expect to release the latest details in the coming days but a full picture of what to expect may take a little longer than that.

The full agenda and minutes of meetings can be found here.
