Denison Police Report Traffic Accident, Related Arrest, and More
The Denison Police Department is reporting a pair of arrests and traffic accidents from this week.
Both arrests happened on Thursday.
One public release indicates that officers took Philip Sharon of Denison into custody was arrested at just before 1:40 p.m. near Broadway. They booked the 39-year-old on an active warrant for Indecent Contact with a Child.
The most recent motor vehicle incident is related to the other arrest.
Police say 77-year-old Paul Launderville of Denison slowed to take a left turn on South 9th Street in a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. The report indicates that 21-year-old Jefferson Gomez of Denison was driving a 2017 GMC Yukon and rear-ended the Equinox. Gomez later told authorities that Launderville did not place his turn signal. No injuries were reported. Launderville was able to drive the Equinox away with repairs on that vehicle expected to cost $10,000. Gomez was arrested for driving while his license is suspended. He was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability, operating a non-registered vehicle, and failure to stop at assured clear distance. The damage estimate for the Yukon totaled $3,000 and it was towed away from the scene.
All charges are allegations and the people named in a case are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
A second traffic accident reportedly took place on Sunday at around 6:30 p.m. near 1st Avenue North. The related document states that a 2018 Ford F-150 was parked in front of the Law Enforcement Center. The report says 27-year-old Juan Torres was backing a 2017 Ford Explorer out of a parking spot when he struck the rear drivers corner of the pickup. There was damage to the rear passenger area of the truck. There was damage to the driver side rear area and taillight of the Explorer. Damage estimates total $1,500 with $1,200 of that applying to the Explorer.
